Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago provides the highest quality, family-centered care to children. Our goal is to enhance the health and well-being of children through patient care, research, education and advocacy. We have received numerous awards and accolades, including being the only Illinois pediatric hospital that qualified for the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll. The Honor Roll designation is awarded to hospitals that scored in the top 10 percent of all pediatric centers in at least three specialties. Lurie Children’s offers superior pediatric care in a setting that offers the latest benefits and innovations in medical technology, research and family-friendly design. Our state-of-the-art hospital has 288 all private rooms that help speed-up the healing process by reducing noise and improving infection control. Our inpatient unit design and unique family spaces make it more convenient for families to visit and remain together during treatment, treating the whole family, not just the patient.
Northwestern University is a leading national research university affiliated with clinical partners Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly RIC), each of which is consistently ranked among the top hospitals nationally among its peers. Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine ranks as one of the top research oriented medical schools in the country. Its Clinical Sciences and Translational Research center (NUCATS) functions as an integrated hub supporting and accelerating clinical and translational science across Northwestern University (including six schools), our three nationally-renowned clinical partners, our Chicago community and stakeholders, and the broad consortium of CTSA-funded institutions.
A new 600,000 square-foot Biomedical Research Building that will be adjacent and connected to the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center is currently under construction. The space will more than double vivarium capacity and house laboratories for both Feinberg and Lurie Children’s Hospital, and have an eventual build-out capacity of approximately 1.2 million square feet. In 2017 the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab opened its new hospital building to become the first-ever “translational” research hospital, bringing 21st century biomedical science and research directly into the clinical environment with a focus on advancing patient ability and discovering new approaches and applying (or “translating”) research in real time.
