The Rheumatology Physician (MD/DO) is administratively responsible to the Chief of Medicine. Clinical oversight is provided by the collaborating physician, Section Chief, Rheumatology. The physician, as a member of the department, communicates with other healthcare providers to manage consults and additional services as required. General duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical practice, supervising and teaching fellows, residents and medical students in the specialty of Rheumatology. Providing consultation to non-rheumatology services for hospitalized patients with rheumatology concerns. Providing outpatient rheumatology consultations and clinic appointments for Veterans with both acute and routine rheumatology concerns. Ensuring that treatment is safe, timely, efficient, efficacious, evidence-based, and patient-centered. Expected to share attending call responsibilities with other Rheumatology/Internal Medicine specialists in covering some nights, weekend and holiday calls as needed. The physician will round with the team of fellow(s), resident(s), and medical student(s) as regards to inpatient settings. Expected to lead and manage the Rheumatology team consisting of fellows, residents, medical students, Pharmacists, Mid-Level Providers, etc. while on inpatient service or in clinical setting.
