Advertised Summary Job Description: The Division of Rheumatology faculty practice is currently seeking a highly motivated NP to support the Rheumatology Clinical Practice at Columbia University. Under the direction of the Division Chief, the Nurse Practitioner will have responsibilities in several areas.
Evaluate and manage a limited cadre of patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases, alongside the MD providers. In this capacity, s/he will be responsible for patient assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and monitoring of laboratory tests, under a medical collaborative agreement. The NP will bill and code as appropriate and complete outpatient notes while maintaining all required billing/compliance certifications. Triage requests for urgent appointments, and evaluate patients who are deemed to require urgent/same day appointments. In this capacity, she will serve as a liaison to referring physicians and external transfers. Serve as liaison to the NYP Hospital Infusion Center for Rheumatology patients receiving biologic medications. This will involve collaboration with Infusion Center nurses and staff, and NYP pharmacists, in the care and treatment of Rheumatology patients receiving infusion treatments. S/he will coordinate all orders for patients receiving infusion care. Serve as educational liaison for patients. This will involve development and maintenance of educational material for patients and providing individual instruction to patients as needed for initiation of first biologic therapy.
Serve as a resource on clinical matters for the practice manager. Oversee, with the practice manager, daily activities of the administrative staff in the Practice. Monitor compliance including JCAHO standards, CUMC/NYP standards, and environmental and safety considerations, and patient safety and satisfaction. Assist faculty in drafting letters of medical necessity, disability claims, and appeal letters. Serve as liaison to the clinical research coordinators with regard to participation of Rheumatology patients in research studies. Provide backup coverage for physicians in emergency or urgent situations. Given the opportunity, the NP will participate in community and/or peer presentations, and participate in the authorship of publications related to areas of expertise. S/he will also participate in Rheumatology educational conferences. There may be opportunities for participation in clinical research protocols as needed. All other related duties as assigned/required.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of related experience. Current New York State NP and RN license. Board certification required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to adapt to flexible schedule and fast/changing work environment, and have excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to perform (or be trained to perform) joint aspirations and injections without direct supervision is preferred but not mandatory. Experience with Columbia University and NYP systems and procedures preferred.
